Helen and Richard tied the knot on August 2024 at Bullock Lake Farm, nestled in the heart of Salt Spring Islandin BC. They envisioned an intimate celebration with about 70-80 guests, where the focus was on fun, casual moments and celebrating with their loved ones. The day before, they honoured their families with a tea ceremony, and the day after, they enjoyed a relaxed lake hang with their guests, but I had the pleasure of capturing just the wedding day.
From the moment I received their inquiry, I was thrilled—not only because I adore Salt Spring Island, but because this would be my first time photographing at Bullock Lake Farm. Helen had reached out because she loved the candid nature of my work and my organic editing style. She wanted her photos to capture the evening’s relaxed, joyful atmosphere.
Their first look took place by the lake, a quiet, serene moment just for the two of them. It wasn’t a prolonged photoshoot—just real, intimate, and beautiful. The decor and floral installation for the wedding was beyond stunning, inspired by Renaissance fruit paintings. It was one of the most intricate and artistic designs I’ve ever seen, and the team brought Helen and Richard’s vision to life flawlessly.
Helen and Richard were one of the rare couples who preferred to spend more time with their guests than focusing on portraits. The ceremony was short and sweet, which allowed me to capture the genuine, in-between moments of the day—the kind of candid shots that speak volumes. We had just 15 minutes for their first look portraits and 20 minutes at sunset, but the golden light, high grass, and painterly backdrop made every frame a dream.
The speeches were heartfelt, filled with laughter, and a touch of friendly teasing, making everyone feel cozy and connected. As the perfect end to summer, Helen and Richard’s wedding was nothing short of magical—every moment felt like a painting come to life!
