When I first connected with Jess on Instagram, I never imagined just how deeply I’d get to document her life’s journey. She had an eye for detail and we instantly clicked as stylist and photographer, collaborating on several shoots together—some even landing in publications. Over the years, I was lucky enough to capture various stages of her relationship with Ryan, from dreamy engagement shoot, to sweet maternity sessions, and now, their intimate wedding on Prince Edward Island.
Being invited as both a photographer and guest to Jess and Ryan’s wedding made this celebration uniquely personal for me. I was not only documenting the day, but I was also living it alongside them, experiencing the joy and love firsthand. The moment I stepped into Jess’s childhood home and met her parents, I understood why she exudes such a romantic spirit. Her mother’s warmth and her father’s artistic vision mirrored Jess’s own creative soul.
The journey to their wedding day wasn’t without its hurdles. A last-minute venue cancellation threw a wrench in their plans, but in true Jess and Ryan fashion, they embraced the unexpected and found an even more breathtaking location in Fernwood, PEI. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the coastal setting turned out to be the perfect location for them to exchange their vows.
Jess, dressed in a gown she had admired for two years from Galia Lahav, walked down the aisle with the most radiant smile. The ceremony was filled with moments that only real life could orchestrate. Three-month-old Coco, their newborn daughter, was nestled in her grandmother’s arms when she started to fuss, and Jess instinctively took her into her embrace, cradling her gently as she spoke her vows. At that very moment, their fur baby Mia trotted over and found a spot on the train of Jess’s dress. Their entire little family had gathered together at the altar.
Jess’s words to Ryan were poetic and heartfelt: “I love you unconditionally and without hesitation. I was yours the minute we met. I vow to love you, grow with you, trust you, respect you, and support you as we together make our dreams a reality… I vow to seek a life with you full of spontaneity, backroad adventures, and unmarked paths, and to teach our children to forge their own way in this life.” Her voice held steady as she promised a lifetime of love and adventure, and there wasn’t a dry eye among the guests.
The rest of the day unfolded with the kind of magic you can’t plan. From heartfelt speeches to candid laughter, each moment carried the weight of cherished memories in the making. As I watched Jess and Ryan dance under the open sky, I couldn’t help but feel immense gratitude for being part of their love story. It was truly an honour to capture this chapter of Jess and Ryan’s lives, especially as they embraced not just each other, but their growing family with Coco and Mia. Here’s to a lifetime of backroad adventures and unmarked paths for this beautiful couple!
