Some wedding days feel like a fairytale, others like a celebration — Jess & Malcolm’s UBC Botanical Garden wedding felt like stepping into a living, breathing moment of warmth, magic, and meaning. Set in one of Vancouver’s most lush and iconic outdoor wedding venues, their ceremony embraced the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the deep cultural significance of the land. From the foliage-filled garden ceremony to the heartfelt reception at the Musqueam Cultural Centre, this Vancouver wedding was equal parts grounded, ethereal, and unforgettable.
Set among the towering greens of UBC Botanical Garden, their ceremony was rooted in both love and legacy. Malcolm’s family is from the Musqueam Nation, and this land has been home to them for generations — a presence that added depth and weight to every step of the day.
Though the afternoon was a little chilly and grey, the weather lent the ceremony a sense of intimacy and calm. Guests wrapped themselves in shawls and nestled in under the forest canopy, letting the atmosphere work its quiet magic.
Jess envisioned a wedding that felt like a summer barbecue — not in look, but in spirit. Relaxed, joyful, deeply personal. The aesthetic leaned into earthy tones, wild foliage, and soft textures — the kind of “ethereal” vibe that feels both effortless and intentional.
From the ceremony, the celebration moved to the Musqueam Cultural Centre, where friends and family gathered for an evening filled with warm lighting, good food, and Jess & Mal’s favorite cocktails — tequila, Aperol spritzes, Mules, and sunset sodas. Laughter filled the room, and the energy was exactly what they had hoped for: comfortable, elevated, and full of life.
They told me early on that they didn’t love posed photography — and they didn’t need to. Their day was made of movement, music, and meaning. From quiet walks through Pacific Spirit Park to spontaneous hugs, everything was real — and that’s what made it beautiful.
